Unless otherwise noted, the Office of Special Scholarship Programs at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) does not administer or sponsor the programs listed on its website. The content of these pages are merely a guide for current undergraduate and professional school students at UIC. August:

NIH Heart, Lung & Blood Institute Funding and Awards for underrepresented undergraduates and graduate students, paid research training at NIH over 2 years
Ozyegin University Summer Program in Turkey(NOT affiliated with UIC Study Abroad) - four-week summer program in Istanbul designed to provide international students (e.g. Americans) an opportunity to learn about Istanbul’s pivotal role in history, as well as the Ottoman Empire and Turkish literature with an analysis of formation of modern Turkish identity; scholarships for program costs available to minority students (African Americans, Latinos and Native Americans)

 

September:

Consortium for Graduate Study in Management- Business students who have completed a bachelor's degree; allows African American, Hispanic or Native American students to apply to MBA programs within the consortium (schools listed on website)
NAACP Scholarships(Fall Deadlines) - several scholarships, variety of fields; some require membership in the NAACP

Xerox Technical Minority Scholarships Program Program for minority students pursuing a technical degree program; undergraduate and graduate students who are of African American, Asian, Pacific Islander, Native American, Native Alaskan, or Hispanic descent

 

 

October:

AANAPISI Scholarships for Summer, Fall or Academic Year (For CURRENT UIC STUDENTS ONLY)-funding for current undergraduate Asian American and Pacific Islander students at UIC; must have a 2.25 GPA or higher and some level of financial need
American Political Science Association Minority Fellowship Program- for pursuit of doctoral degrees in political science; African Americans, Asian Pacific Americans, Latinos/as, and Native Americans
Asian Women in Business Scholarshipfor females of Asian or Pacific Islander descent; must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents; must have a 3.0/4.0 GPA and either demonstrated a leadership role in a community endeavor and/or a record of entrepreneurial achievement
Everett and Florence Drumright Scholarships(FOR UIC UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS ONLY)- all majors, who are American-born of Chinese descent (offered in both fall and spring semesters)
Illinois Legislative Latino Caucus Foundation Scholarship(FOR STUDENTS IN THE STATE OF ILLINOIS ONLY)
- for full-time undergraduate Latino students whose home residence is in Illinois and are attending an Illinois college or university; awards of $2,000
Korean Resource Center Dream Scholarship Fund for students who identify as Korean American or Asian and Pacific Islander American; must demonstrate financial need and achievement in the arts, community service, sports or other activities
La Unidad Latina Foundation(Fall Deadline) -educational scholarships are awarded to Hispanic students on a competitive basis and range from $250 to $1000

 

November:

Ford Foundation Scholarships(CONTACT OSSP IF INTERESTED)- meant to increase the number of professors who can and will use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students; Alaska Natives (Aleut, Eskimo and other Indigenous People of Alaska); African Americans; Mexican Americans or Chicanos(as); Native American Indians; Native Pacific Islanders (Hawaiian/Polynesian/Micronesian); and Puerto Ricans
National Physical Science Consortium (NPSC) Fellowships- emphasizes recruitment of women and underrepresented minorities into doctoral degree programs within the physical sciences, biochemistry, computer science, and related fields of science and engineering
The National GEM Consortium Fellowships-engineering, natural and physical sciences; for master's and PhD-level work; African American, Native American Indian, and Hispanic students

 Islamic Scholarship Fund- awards for Muslim students studying social sciences, humanities and law, and are active in their communities

American Psychological Association Minority Fellowships Programminority students with a dedication to a career in mental health research or services relevant to ethnic and racial minority groups
American Sociological Association Minority Fellowships Programsupports the development and training of sociologists of color in mental illness and disorders and related co-morbidities (i.e. alcohol and drug abuse)
APIASF Scholarship Program $2500 - $15,000 scholarships for Asian and/or Pacific Islander (as defined by the U.S. Census) students who are citizens, nationals or legal permanent residents of the U.S. Citizens of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia and the Republic of Palau are also eligible to apply. Requires a 2.7 GPA, letter of recommendation and FAFSA application. freshmen and technical/community college transfer students who would have otherwise not been able to enter into a professional architecture program for financial reasons

UDall Summer Congressional Internship for Native Americans Udall Native American Congressional Internship- internship positions for Native American Indians and Alaska Natives in Washington, DC, for a summer; college juniors, seniors or recent graduates and graduate or law students
Gates Millennium Scholarships for 1000 Minority Students- Award Amount full funding after other sources of aid The Gates Millennium Scholarship is offered each year to 1000 US citizens or permanent residents who are minority students (e.g. African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American, or Hispanic American).

Congressional Black Caucus Foundation General Mills Health Scholarship  for students preparing to pursue an undergraduate or graduate degree full-time OR a current full-time student in good academic standing at an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in the fields of medicine, engineering, technology, nutrition, or other health-related studies; minimum 2.5 GPA on 4.0 scale and exhibit leadership ability and participate in community service activities

Wellstone Fellowship for Social Justice- social justice and health care advocacy and policy; seeks to increase the number of low-income, African American, Latino, Asian American, Native Pacific Islander, and Native American Indian and Alaska Native social justice leaders

Illinois Dream Scholarship for undocumented students who have resided with his or her parent(s) or guardian(s) while attending high school in Illinois and have an Illinois high school diploma or equivalent; must be an incoming freshman, current undergraduate or transfer student who possesses at least a 2.5/4.0 GPA
Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) Scholarship for recent college graduates interested in developing leadership and public policy experience
League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) National Scholarship Fund- Hispanic students; must apply through a local LULAC council (info on website)
National Association of Black Journalists Scholarship must be a student member of NABJ; for journalism majors or those pursuing careers in journalism
National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL) STEM Targeted Majors Scholarship Fund a one-time educational grant of $2,500 and an opportunity to intern with a corporate NHCSL partner; must be at least a sophomore, a U.S. citizen, and of Hispanic descent
UIC Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship (FOR UIC STUDENTS ONLY) any discipline; undergraduate and graduate/professional school students; African American, Hispanic and Native American Indian or Alaskan Native students
Worldstudio Foundation Scholarshipsstudents in studio design and the visual arts; minority students are particularly encouraged to apply
Islamic Society of North America Scholarships scholarships and fellowships for Muslim American students pursuing a college education in the United States
Jack G. Shaheen Mass Communications ScholarshipsTo honor Arab-American students who excel in Media Studies. Amount for $1,000. Eligible for college students majoring in journalism, radio, television, and/or film, and who are juniors, seniors, or in graduate school.

AAIF Youth Leadership Scholarship- The Helen Abbott Community Service Awards is given in two categories: (1) achievement by a college/university student and (2) achievement by a high school student. Each year the Foundation awards a maximum of two $1,000 individual prizes and one $500 grant to a high school student. Organizational community service projects include, but are not limited to: community improvement and service projects such as park clean-ups, recycling programs, volunteering in shelters, tutoring programs, food/toy drives, and ethnic/cultural outreach.

AIA/F Diversity Advancement Scholarship for Black/African American, Hispanic, Native North American and Pacific Islander students; must be a full-time undergraduate students pursuing a degree that may lead to a career in the actuarial profession; awards $1,000 to high school seniors applying for freshmen year; $2,000 to college freshmen applying for sophomore year/sophomore applying for junior year; and $3,000 to college juniors applying for senior year
Cafe del Futuro Scholarship Essay Contest- essay competition for Latino/a students,

Chinese American Medical Society Scholarship awards 3-5 scholarships annually to medical students, dentistry students or scientists of Chinese descent
Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Scholarships Latino students in the United States who have a history of performing public service-oriented activities in their communities, demonstrate a desire to continue their civic engagement in the future; no GPA or academic major requirement
Hispanic College Fund College and Career Institute Scholarship for Puerto Rican students preference for students in Puerto Rico; must be a U.S. citizen with a 3.0 GPA or better and Puerto Rican or of Puerto Rican descent; scholarships from $500-$5,000; must be full-time undergraduate

Cirilo McSween (New York Life) $2,500 Scholarship(FOR GRADUATING SENIORS ACCEPTED TO UIC) business majors, sponsored by the Rainbow-PUSH Coalition. Must be a senior attending high school and must graduate in spring or summer of 2015. Student must be accepted to an accredited four-year degree program at a college or university in the U.S. for the academic year commencing in the year the scholarship is granted.
Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Louis Stokes Health Scholars Program awards (10) scholarships of up to $8,000 each for U.S. citizens or legal U.S. residents who have a GPA of 3.0 or above; must be currently enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or technical school in a subject that will lead to a career in a health field; preference to students at two-year institutions who plan to complete a four-year degree and seek work in an underserved community

Zakrzewski Medical Scholarship awarded annually to one young woman of Polish ancestry in her first, second, or third year of medical studies at an accredited school of medicine in the United States; award of $3,500; first preference given to residents of Massachusetts or New England at-large

The Actuarial Foundation Actuary Diversity Scholarship for Black/African American, Hispanic, Native North American and Pacific Islander students; must be a full-time undergraduate students pursuing a degree that may lead to a career in the actuarial profession; awards $1,000 to high school seniors applying for freshmen year; $2,000 to college freshmen applying for sophomore year/sophomore applying for junior year; and $3,000 to college juniors applying for senior year

Yivo Institute-Bard College Summer Yiddish Program- summer study program of Yiddish language, and an in-depth exploration of the literature and culture of East European/American Jewry

Children of Persia Scholarship Program -The scholarship program provides funds to qualified college level students in a degreed program in accredited colleges and universities across the U.S., who demonstrate high academic standings, active community engagement and a financial need to pursue higher education

United Macedonian Diaspora scholarships for Macedonian Americans to study abroad in Turkey; competitive internships with the UMD in Washington, DC; and competitive internships with the Macedonian internships in Washington, DC
NAACP Scholarships several scholarships, variety of fields; some require membership in the NAACP
Islamic Development Bank Scholarship This program is unique as the IDB scholarship is a grant from the IDB to the Muslim community and is offered as an interest-free loan to the students, to be refunded in easy installments, for the future use of other needy students in the community. Five scholarships of $15,000 each year for four years will be awarded. This scholarship is for students entering their first year of professional (graduate level) study.
